About Terry Scott


Terry Scott has been repairing string instruments for over 40 years. In 1969 Terry began his apprenticeship, repairing violins at the famous Wallach's Music City in Hollywood.

  • 1976 Terry opened Strings and Things in Torrance CA. He repaired and sold all things with strings.
  • 1979 Moved to Palm Springs and continued repairing instruments.  A few of his clients were: Gene Autry, Hoyt AxtonKenny Rogers (and members of his band), Erving Ashby and many others.
  • 1995 Moved to Reno and repaired string instruments at Carpenter's Music World.
  • 2002 Opened Terry Scott All Strings Repair.


Terry started performing on guitar professionally, with his older brother Danny, at the age of 13 on live gospel radio. The duo also performed at The Thunderbird Hotel in Las Vegas. 

In 1970 Terry performed and recorded with Freda Payne in the Los Angles area.

In the 1970's Terry played at Disneyland backing headliners. He was an in demand studio player as well. It was during this time that 
Terry worked with the famous record producer Paul Rose at United Artists

In 1978 he received a Gold Record for his work as a producer on the Gerry Rafferty album "City to City." most notably for the song "Baker Street".

Terry is a guitar instructor at Truckee Meadows Community College. His classes are open to TMCC and UNR students for credit.



Terry does not teach privately at this time.
